WILDER, Ky. - Jesse Thomas scored two goals Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team posted a 7-0 win over the University of Southern Indiana at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Katie Hanck and Michelle Kelly each added two assists for NKU, which built a 2-0 halftime lead behind goals from Amy Law and Kristen Lies. The Norse blew the game open in the second half with five goals. Jayme Light and Kristen Votapek netted goals early in the second half to give NKU a 4-0 lead, and Thomas scored her first career goal at the 77:02 mark to make it 5-0. The Norse finished with a 20-5 advantage in shot attempts and controlled play the entire match. Lauren Piening recorded the shutout as NKU bounced back from a loss at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville last Sunday and improved to 7-3 overall, 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Piening also had five saves en route to earning her sixth shutout of the season. The Norse lead the all-time series with Southern Indiana by a 7-3 margin and own five straight wins over the Screaming Eagles. NKU will play host to the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. |
