NKU HITS ROAD FOR KEY MATCHES

Norse play at Missouri-St. Louis, Southern Indiana

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will hit the road for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches this weekend, beginning with a 6 p.m. Friday contest at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

NKU will conclude the two-game road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against the University of Southern Indiana.

NKU is 7-2-1 overall, 3-0 in the GLVC. The Norse are now 43-0-4 against GLVC teams during the past four years.

NKU has not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over the Norse.

Laurel Chalk’s first-half goal Sunday afternoon lifted NKU to a 1-0 victory over Bellarmine University at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

Chalk chased down a lead pass from Kendra Zinser on the play and launched a shot from 18 yards out on the left side. Chalk’s shot rocketed past Bellarmine goalie Erin Strouse into the net and gave NKU a 1-0 lead at the 39:33 mark.

It was Chalk’s first goal of the season, while the assist was the fourth for Zinser in 2003. Zinser leads NKU with four assists and five goals this season, while Katie Hanck and Krista Rogers both have three assists.

Amy Law and Jamie Reynolds each have four goals this season for the Norse.

NKU owns an 8-1 lead in the all-time series with Missouri-St. Louis, and the Norse hold a 5-3 edge over Southern Indiana in that series.

A year ago, NKU defeated Missouri-St. Louis twice, including a 1-0 victory in the championship match of the GLVC Tournament.
