WILDER, Ky. - Kendra Zinser scored a goal in the first half Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 1-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The NKU defense limited Indianapolis to just six shots as the Norse improved to 5-2-1 overall, 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU, which has won five straight GLVC championships, also kept its four-year unbeaten streak intact against GLVC teams. The Norse have not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over NKU. Since that loss to SIUE in 1999, NKU has gone 41-0-4 against GLVC teams. Late in the first half Sunday, NKU and Indianapolis were scoreless when the Norses Krista Rogers sent a pass down the middle that was tracked down by Zinser. Indianapolis goalie Maggie Miller came out to challenge Zinser, who lofted a shot over Miller into the empty net to give NKU a 1-0 lead. NKUs defense held Indianapolis scoreless to pick up its fifth shutout of the season. Norse goalie Sam Westerling collected two saves. NKU is now 9-0-1 all-time against Indianapolis, which dropped to 3-4-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the GLVC. The Norse have won eight straight against the Greyhounds, who managed a 1-1 tie against NKU in 1998 at the Town & Country Sports Complex. NKU will play host to Kentucky Wesleyan College at 5:30 p.m. this Friday at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The Norse will also play host to Bellarmine University at noon next Sunday. |
