WILDER, Ky. - Amy Law and Amy Martini each scored second-half goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Mercyhurst (Pa.) College, 2-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Laws goal - a rebound shot in traffic - snapped a scoreless deadlock at the 67:13 mark and gave NKU a 1-0 lead. Martini blasted in a kick from 18 feet straight out six minutes later to seal the victory for the Norse. NKU, which improved to 4-1-1, allowed Mercyhurst (2-3-1) just two shots the entire match. The Norse controlled play throughout the second half and finished with a 14-2 advantage in shots. Sam Westerling recorded the shutout for NKU, which will play host to Grand Valley State University at 7 p.m. this Friday night. Grand Valley State is ranked No. 14 nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll. NKU, which began the season No. 3 in the national poll, dropped out of the Top 25 this week after a 2-1 overtime loss to Tusculum (Tenn.) College last Sunday. |
