Norse play UW-Parkside to 1-1 tie, earn top seed in GLVC |

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team played the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to a 1-1 tie in two overtimes Sunday afternoon at the Wood Road Field. As a result of the tie, NKU wrapped up the No. 1 seed and home field advantage in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. The Norse are 12-2-2 overall, 8-0-1 in the GLVC. NKU also extended its unbeaten streak against GLVC opponents to 53 with the tie. The Norse are now 48-0-5 against GLVC teams during the past four years. NKU has not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over the Norse. Wisconsin-Parkside (10-2-3 overall, 5-1-3 GLVC) took a 1-0 lead 18 minutes into the contest when Megan Jurvis crossed the ball into the box and Christine Fudzinski scored on a header. The Rangers - who were held to just two shots the entire match - took the 1-0 lead into halftime. NKU tied the match at 1-1 with 22 minutes remaining in regulation when Amy Law netted her seventh goal of the season after taking a pass from Laurel Chalk. Robyn Withers, who started the play with a lead pass to Chalk, also was credited with an assist. NKU will close out GLVC regular-season play next Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at Lewis University. The Norse return home Oct. 31 for a 4 p.m. non-conference match against Wheeling Jesuit University at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. NKU will begin GLVC Tournament play Nov. 2 with a first-round contest against the No. 8 seed at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The semifinals are set for Nov. 7, and the championship match will be played Nov. 9. The Norse are seeking their sixth straight GLVC Tournament championship. NKU has never lost (13-0 all-time) in the GLVC Tournament. NKU is currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll. The top four teams in those rankings will advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament in November. NKU is aiming for its fifth consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Grand Valley State University, which owns a 1-0 win over NKU this season, is ranked No. 1 in the regional poll. Ashland University is ranked No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region, followed by NKU and Wisconsin-Parkside. |
