Laws goal in overtime gives NKU 2-1 win over SIUE |

WILDER, Ky. - Amy Law scored a goal six minutes into the first overtime Friday night to give the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team a 2-1 victory over Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Laws goal was set up by a long lead pass from Bobbi Meister, who lofted the ball down the field to a streaking Emi Himeshima. SIUE goalie Kristin Covalt came out of the net to challenge Himeshima, but Law raced in, took the pass and knocked the ball into the net to give the Norse the victory. Meister and Himeshima both were credited with assists on the play as NKU won its sixth straight match and improved to 10-2-1 overall, 6-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse also extended their unbeaten streak against GLVC opponents to 50 with the victory. NKU is now 46-0-4 against GLVC teams during the past four years. The Norse have not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when SIUE posted a 3-1 win over NKU. SIUE (7-4 overall, 1-4 GLVC) took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the second half when Ann Crawford fired in a 15-yard shot from the left side past NKU goalie Kristin Polosky. The Norse, however, later tied the score when Katie Kugele took a perfect corner kick from Amy Martini and beat the SIUE defense with a goal. NKU held a 19-2 advantage in shot attempts, and the Norse also earned 10 corner kicks. Law, a freshman and a graduate of Glen Este High School, now has six goals this season. NKU will play host to Quincy University at noon Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex. |
