HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team received a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament on Monday, and the Norse will meet Ashland University in the first round of the Great Lakes Regional at noon this Friday (Nov. 14) at Allendale, Mich. NKU enters the NCAA Division II Tournament with a 16-2-3 record and is the No. 3 seed in the Great Lakes Region. The Norse are making their fifth straight trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Ashland, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, owns a 16-1-1 record and is the No. 2 seed. The Eagles enter Fridays match against NKU unbeaten in their last 15 matches. NKU and Ashland met in last seasons Great Lakes Region championship match, and the Norse pulled out a 2-1 victory in overtime at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. Two years ago, NKU and Ashland played in the first round at Ashland, Ohio, and the Norse posted a 4-0 victory against the Eagles. Top-seeded Grand Valley State University (16-1-2) will meet fourth-seeded University of Wisconsin-Parkside (13-2-5) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the other Great Lakes Region match. The Great Lakes Region championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. The winner of the Great Lakes Region will meet the winner of the Central Region in the national quarterfinals either Nov. 22 or Nov. 23. The NCAA Division II Final Four will be held at Virginia Beach, Va., Dec. 4-6. |
