WILDER, Ky. - Amy Tate and Kristen Votapek each scored second-half goals Sunday as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University, 2-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The NKU defense did not allow a shot on goal the entire match, and Tate gave the Norse a 1-0 lead at the 62:34 mark with her first collegiate goal by knocking in a rebound shot. Katie Hanck picked up her team-leading third assist on Tates goal. Votapek sealed the win for NKU nine minutes later by taking a pass from Michelle Kelly and finding the net from eight yards out directly in front of the goal. It was Votapeks second goal of the season. The Norse, ranked No. 7 nationally in the Division II preseason poll, improved to 3-1. NKU dominated field position the entire afternoon and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. NKU outshot 15th-ranked Christian Brothers (0-2) by a 10-2 margin, and the Norse defense kept the Buccaneers out of scoring range most of the game. NKU will travel to Big Rapids, Mich., next Saturday for a noon contest against Ferris State University. |
