BELLARMINE UPSETS NKU, 76-72
Knights rally from 18-point deficit to defeat No. 6 NKU
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Betsy Young scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half Saturday afternoon as the Bellarmine College womens basketball team rallied to upset sixth-ranked Northern Kentucky University, 76-72, in Regents Hall.
Bellarmine (7-4, 2-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference) trailed by 18 points (27-9) with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half, but the Knights used an 18-10 run to trail just 37-27 at halftime.
NKU (8-2, 3-1 GLVC) still held a 68-62 lead with 4:40 remaining in the game on a Kristin Polosky layup, but Bellarmine used a 12-0 run to take a 74-68 advantage with 1:13 left. Ryan Danner and Stephanie Hutchcraft both scored five points to key the spurt.
Bellarmines Rachel Young sealed the game by making a short jumper with 11 seconds remaining to give the Knights a 76-72 lead.
Sophomore forward Michelle Cottrell led NKU with 22 points, and Polosky added 16 points.
