NKU PLAYS AT UW-PARKSIDE THURSDAY

Norse also visit Lewis this Saturday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team is 15-2 after posting a 75-53 win at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday. NKU is 9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and tied for first place with Bellarmine University. The Norse will play a pair of GLVC road games this week, starting with a 6:30 p.m. Thursday contest at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. NKU will conclude the road trip at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewis University. Michele Tuchfarber scored 22 points Saturday afternoon as NKU defeated Missouri-St. Louis. Tuchfarber is NKU’s all-time career leader with 147 three-point field goals, and she ranks No. 7 in Norse history with 1,396 career points. COTTRELL NOW NO. 4 IN SCORING: NKU junior forward Michelle Cottrell ranks No. 4 on the Norse's all-time scoring list with 1,490 career points. She needs just 10 points to become the first junior in Norse women’s basketball history to reach 1,500 career points. Peggy Vincent is NKU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,883 career points, and Cottrell is on pace to surpass that total sometime in the middle of next season. Cottrell also ranks No. 6 on the NKU all-time rebounding list with 758 rebounds. She needs just seven rebounds to move past Teresa Rump (764 rebounds) into fifth place in Norse history. Cottrell is NKU’s all-time leader in career free throws made (418) and career field goal percentage (.593). She also has 32 career double-doubles. WHERE THEY RANK IN THE GLVC: As a team, NKU ranks No. 1 in the GLVC in field goal percentage (50.8 percent) and three-point percentage (41.2 percent). The Norse also rank No. 2 in free throw percentage (76.7 percent) and scoring margin (+20.1). Michelle Cottrell ranks No. 3 in scoring (17.8 ppg) and No. 2 in rebounding (8.1 rpg). She is also No. 2 in field goal percentage (61.5 percent). Heather Livingstone ranks No. 3 in assists per game (4.53 apg) and No. 5 in free throw percentage (83.1 percent). Michele Tuchfarber ranks No. 1 in the GLVC in three-point percentage at 47.9 percent. ABOUT UW-PARKSIDE: The Rangers are 5-12 overall after dropping a 79-67 decision to Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne last Saturday at Kenosha, Wis. The Rangers are 2-9 in the GLVC. Denita Sublet leads Wisconsin-Parkside in scoring with an 11.7 ppg average. Joy Rodefer averages 11.6 ppg and 5.7 rebounds per contest, and she is shooting 52.8 percent from the field. Erin Crank is scoring 8.2 ppg, and Nicole Brunk is the team’s top three-point shooter (22 of 62, 35.5 percent). THE LAST TIME AGAINST UW-PARKSIDE: Earlier this season on Dec. 2 at Highland Heights, Ky., Heather Livingstone scored 18 points as NKU defeated Wisconsin-Parkside, 63-33, in Regents Hall. Michelle Cottrell added 13 points and nine rebounds for NKU, which held Wisconsin-Parkside to 19.2 percent shooting from the field during the first half to build a 30-13 lead. The Norse also forced the Rangers into 24 turnovers and made 20 of 25 free throw attempts. NKU owns a 12-0 lead in the all-time series against Wisconsin-Parkside. The Norse are 5-0 on the road against the Rangers. THE SERIES WITH LEWIS: NKU leads the all-time series with Lewis, 28-3. The Norse won the first meeting between the two schools this season by a 96-64 score at Highland Heights, Ky., on Nov. 30. Michelle Cottrell scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead NKU in that game. Heather Livingstone added 18 points as NKU shot 52.9 percent from the field, and the Norse held Lewis to 42.1 percent from the field. NKU made 37 of 49 free throw attempts and forced Lewis into 29 turnovers. Amy Mobley (11 points), Bridget Flanagan (11 points), Jessica Jenson (10 points) and Michele Tuchfarber (10 points) also scored in double figures for NKU. NKU owns five consecutive wins against Lewis. The Flyers have not defeated NKU since the 1997-98 season, when Lewis posted a 58-40 victory over the Norse at Romeoville, Ill.
