NKU WOMEN SELECTED FOURTH IN GLVC POLL

Norse begin Nov. 13 against 2000 NCAA national champions

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team has been tabbed fourth in the 2004-05 Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll, which was released Thursday.

Bellarmine University and the University of Indianapolis each received 86 points to top the poll. Bellarmine received four first-place votes, while Indianapolis totaled two first-place votes.

Defending GLVC champion Quincy University is third in the poll with 85 points and three first-place votes. NKU totaled 77 points and received two first-place votes.

NKU finished with a 17-11 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. NKU returns three starters and eight letterwinners, including top scorer Connie Myers (14.4 points per game).

A senior forward, Myers also averaged 7.3 rebounds per game and shot 46.4 percent from the field.

Senior guard Nikki Perkins averaged 9.6 ppg and made a team-leading 49 three-point field goals last season. Senior point guard Elizabeth Burrows led NKU with 120 assists and returns to the lineup in 2004-05.

Sophomores Karmen Graham (6.5 ppg) and Karyn Creager (6.5 ppg) are also expected to be key performers this season. NKU also adds transfer Brittany Winner and prep standout Nicole Chiodi for the 2004-05 season.

The Norse will meet the 2000 NKU national championship team Nov. 13 in an exhibition game. NKU opens its regular-season schedule Nov. 16 against Georgetown (Ky.) College in Regents Hall.
