NKU WINS 14TH CONSECUTIVE GAME
Norse defeat IPFW, 80-49, on Saturday
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore forward Michelle Cottrell scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds Saturday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens basketball team defeated Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, 80-49, in Regents Hall.
NKU limited IPFW to just 15.4 percent shooting from the field in the second half to roll to the victory. The Norse improved to 22-2 overall, 17-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU has now won 14 consecutive games, its longest streak since winning 22 straight last season en route to the NCAA Division II Final Four.
NKU will conclude the regular season next week with road games at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (6:30 p.m. on Thursday) and the University of Southern Indiana (6:15 p.m. on Saturday).
The Norse will then play in the GLVC Tournament March 1-4 in Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind. NKU will be the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament and play on March 1 against the No. 8 seed.
NKU is also hoping to host the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament in March. The No. 1 seed will host the event, and NKU is currently ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region.
NKU won the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament last season in Regents Hall and advanced to the Division II Elite Eight in Pine Bluff, Ark. NKU defeated Indiana (Pa.) in the first game, and lost to Arkansas Tech in the Final Four.
