NKU DEFEATS LANDER IN PERKINS CLASSIC

Norse remain unbeaten (5-0) with 75-46 win in first round

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore forward Michelle Cottrell scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team defeated Lander (S.C.) University, 75-46, in the first round of the Perkins/NKU Classic in Regents Hall.

Cottrell made 8 of 12 shots from the field and hit all 10 of her free throw attempts as the Norse advanced to Saturday night’s championship game against Lake Superior State. LSSU posted an 84-74 win against Edinboro (Pa.) in the other first-round game on Friday.

Junior guard Michele Tuchfarber added 11 points and five rebounds for NKU, which is ranked No. 5 nationally in the WBCA Division II poll. Freshman forward Amy Mobley pulled down 11 rebounds for NKU, and she also had two blocked shots.

NKU is looking for its second straight Perkins Classic championship. A year ago, the Norse defeated Delta State, 67-55, in the championship game.
