NKU WOMEN SIGN THREE RECRUITS

Chiodi, Healy and Winner to play for Norse in 2004-05

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball program has added two highly-regarded prep recruits and a transfer for next season, as Norse head coach Nancy Winstel has announced the signings of guard Nicole Chiodi, post player Angela Healy and forward Brittany Winner.

Chiodi, one of Kentucky’s top prep players at Newport Central Catholic High School, averaged 18.5 points per game as a senior en route to being named second team All-State. She was also tabbed Player of the Year by both The Kentucky Post and The Enquirer as a senior.

A 6-foot guard, Chiodi finished her career as Newport Central Catholic’s all-time scoring leader with 2,124 points. She also made 106 three-point field goals during her four-year varsity career at Newport Central Catholic and finished as the school’s all-time leader with 486 assists and 429 steals.

Healy, a 6-foot-2 inside player, averaged 15 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Highlands High School. Healy also blocked 2.5 shots per game and made 73 percent of her free throws in 2003-04.

Healy earned All-Region honors for the Bluebirds as a senior. She also lettered in soccer and tennis at Highlands.

Winner, a 5-10 forward, played at Division I Elon (N.C.) University last season. She averaged 4.0 ppg at Elon and averaged 17.7 minutes per game as the Phoenix posted a 17-12 record.

A 2003 graduate of Minster (Ohio) High School, Winner averaged 12.7 points and four steals per game as a senior. She also set a school record with 88 steals in a season.

In addition, Winner was a first team All-State selection in both cross country and track at Minster. She led the Wildcats to three state championships in both cross country and track.

Those three players will join an NKU team that posted a 17-11 record last season. The Norse also advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the sixth consecutive year.
