NKU HITS ROAD FOR UM-ST. LOUIS, SIUE

Norse face important GLVC road trip this weekend

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches, starting with an 8 p.m. contest at the University of Missouri-St. Louis this Friday.

NKU (4-6 overall, 2-1 in the GLVC) will also play at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at 2 p.m. Saturday. Missouri-St. Louis is 9-5 overall, 0-1 in the GLVC. SIUE is 11-3 overall, 1-0 in the GLVC.

NKU is 12-0 all-time against Missouri-St. Louis. The Norse own a 12-1 series lead against SIUE.

WELTER, KORALEWSKI LEAD NORSE PAST UWP: Cammi Welter and Kristin Koralewski both recorded 16 kills Saturday afternoon as NKU rallied to defeat the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 18-30, 30-24, 30-18, 30-18, in Regents Hall. Welter also finished with a .438 hitting percentage and 11 digs, while Koralewski added 15 digs and a .387 hitting percentage.

Welter leads NKU in hitting percentage at .345, and she ranks No. 2 on the team with 128 kills. She is No. 2 on the team with 27 total blocks.

Koralewski, who has two straight double-doubles, ranks No. 3 on the team in both kills (101) and digs (87).

SALISBURY MAKES IMPACT: Nicole Salisbury leads NKU in kills (129) and digs (108), and she ranks No. 2 on the team with a .294 hitting percentage. Salisbury, a transfer from Wayne (Mich.) State University, had 22 kills and 22 digs during a 3-1 loss to Lewis on Friday night.

TAYLOR MADE: Sara Taylor leads NKU in assists (13.23 apg) and ranks No. 2 on the team with 14 service aces. Taylor had 52 assists, four service aces and 13 digs against Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.

PUGH OFF TO FAST START: Maggie Pugh leads NKU with 15 service aces, and she has a .281 hitting percentage. Pugh - who had 14 kills and a .824 hitting percentage at Bellarmine University last Tuesday night - also ranks No. 3 on the team with 21 total blocks.

AGAINST THE GLVC: Since 1997, NKU is 75-6 against GLVC opponents in regular-season competition. The Norse are also 15-0 in the GLVC Tournament during that period and 2-0 in the NCAA Tournament against GLVC foes.

 

NKU plays at UM-St. Louis
