HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will close out its regular-season home schedule Tuesday night when the University of Indianapolis visits Regents Hall for a 7 p.m. match. NKU is now 21-5 overall, 11-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, after posting a crucial 15-11, 15-7, 15-3 win at the University of Southern Indiana on Saturday. NKU can wrap up the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament this week by winning its final three regular-season matches. In addition to Tuesday nights home match with Indianapolis, NKU will hit the road and play at Saint Joseph's College at 8 p.m. Friday night, and close the regular season at Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. If NKU wins all three matches, the Norse will host the GLVC Tournament Nov. 9-11 in Regents Hall. If Southern Indiana loses at either Missouri-St. Louis or Quincy this weekend, NKU will need just two wins in its final three matches to clinch the No. 1 seed. PERFECT AGAINST INDY: NKU has never lost to Indianapolis in volleyball, and the Norse own a 27-0 lead in the all-time series with the Greyhounds. NKU defeated Indianapolis in four games earlier this season at Indianapolis, Ind. REGENTS HALL FAREWELL: NKU head coach Mary Biermann, who announced in July she will retire at the conclusion of the 2000 campaign, will make her final regular-season appearance in Regents Hall as coach of the Norse on Tuesday. Biermann enters that match as NKUs all-time leader in career victories with 280. BUROKER LEADS NKU PAST USI: NKU senior middle hitter Jessica Buroker had 21 kills, 12 digs and a .679 hitting percentage on Saturday to lead NKU past Southern Indiana. Buroker leads the GLVC in hitting percentage at .411. |
