FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kaliana Kalache finished with 10 kills and five service aces Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Kentucky State University, 30-10, 30-17, 30-18, in a non-conference match at Bell Gym. Lynne Fischesser also posted 10 kills as NKU extended its win streak to 11 and improved to 18-7 overall. Sara Taylor - who ranks No. 2 nationally in NCAA Division II in assists - picked up 40 assists against Kentucky State. Earlier on Saturday, the Norse posted a 30-23, 30-23, 30-19 non-conference victory over the University of Charleston (W. Va.). Kalache, a freshman middle hitter, had 10 kills and five service aces against Charleston. Kristin Koralewski recorded 12 kills, 11 digs, three service aces and a .647 hitting percentage in the first match Saturday. Taylor added 46 assists and six digs against Charleston. NKU is 9-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and tied with Lewis University - which won at the University of Indianapolis on Saturday - for first place in the league standings. The Flyers are also 9-2 in the GLVC. NKU will hit the road next weekend for matches at Kentucky Wesleyan College (8 p.m. Friday) and the University of Southern Indiana (2 p.m. Saturday). USI owns a 7-2 record in the GLVC and trails NKU and Lewis by one game in the standings. NKU is seeking its sixth consecutive GLVC championship. If NKU earns the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament, the Norse will play host to that event Nov. 14-16 in Regents Hall. Since 1997, NKU is 82-7 against GLVC opponents in regular-season competition. |
