HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will play host to Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Lewis University at 7 p.m. this Friday night in Regents Hall. NKU is currently 17-4 overall, 8-1 in the GLVC. Lewis - which defeated NKU in three games earlier this season - is 14-7 overall, 6-3 in the GLVC. That victory by Lewis snapped NKUs GLVC winning streak at 40 consecutive matches. NKU enters Fridays match against Lewis with 46 consecutive wins at home. NKU - ranked No. 15 nationally in this weeks Division II poll - will also play host to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the University of New Haven at 5 p.m. The last team to beat NKU in Regents Hall was New Haven, which knocked off the Norse in four games on Nov. 9, 1997. The NCAA Division II all-time record for consecutive homecourt victories is 109, set by New Haven from 1992-97. NKU senior middle hitter Jessica Buroker earned GLVC Player of the Week honors this past Tuesday. Buroker currently leads the GLVC in hitting percentage at .382, and she also has 267 kills. Junior outside hitter Bethany Gastright leads the GLVC in kills per game (5.18), and she has a .334 hitting percentage. Senior setter Bobbi Casey ranks No. 2 in the GLVC with an average of 12.52 assists per game. Casey is also eighth in service aces (.427 sapg). NKU is seeking its fourth straight GLVC championship. The Norse are also looking to earn the right to host the GLVC Tournament Nov. 9-11. NKU will be the No. 1 seed if it has the best winning percentage in the GLVC at the end of the regular season. |
