NO. 5 CHARLESTON DEFEATS NKU, 1-0, ON SATURDAY

WILDER, Ky. - Nikola Stamanov scored a goal in the second half Saturday as unbeaten University of Charleston (W. Va.) defeated Northern Kentucky University, 1-0, at Town & Country Sports Complex.

Charleston, 14-0 and ranked No. 5 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, took the lead at the 62:05 mark on Stamanov’s goal. Charleston goalie Phillip Elias picked up the shutout with two saves, and he stopped a potential game-tying goal by deflecting a shot by NKU’s Mike Combs with 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

NKU is now 6-8-1, and the Norse will travel to Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne for a Great Lakes Valley Conference match next Saturday.
