Norse stop WVWCs 34-game win streak with 11-2 victory |

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Megan Owens and Kristin Koors each hit home runs Thursday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team defeated West Virginia Wesleyan College, 11-2, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Heather Cotner added two hits and two runs batted in as NKU (36-15) snapped West Virginia Wesleyans 34-game winning streak. The fifth-seeded Norse pounded out 12 hits and advanced to meet top-seeded Grand Valley State University at 3 p.m. today in the second round of the double-elimination tournament. Krystal Lewallen allowed five hits and one run in four innings to pick up the victory over West Virginia Wesleyan (45-8). The game was called after five innings due to the eight-run rule. Kara Lorenz, Shaunta Mitchell and Angie Lindeman scored two runs each for NKU, which tied a single-season record for victories (36). It also marked the NKU softball programs first-ever NCAA Tournament win. |
