Norses Lewallen named GLVC Freshman of the Year |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Three Northern Kentucky University softball players - Angie Lindeman, Megan Owens and Krystal Lewallen - have earned first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors. Lindeman, a sophomore first baseman from North Canton, Ohio, is batting .329 with 11 doubles and 27 runs batted in. Lindeman also leads the team with 19 walks this season. Owens, a sophomore catcher from Fairfield, Ohio, leads NKU with 30 RBI and is batting .329. Owens also has 11 doubles and is tied for the team lead with two home runs. Lewallen, a freshman pitcher from Crestwood, Ky., owns a 15-8 record this season with a 0.75 earned run average. Lewallen also leads the GLVC with 179 strikeouts, and she has seven shutouts this season. In addition to being first team All-GLVC, Lewallen was also named the GLVCs Freshman of the Year. NKU is currently 35-15 and hoping to receive a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament, which will begin this Thursday at the No. 1 seed. The Norse were ranked No. 5 in last weeks Great Lakes Region rankings, and the top six teams will qualify for the NCAA Tournament. |
