Lewallen, Leimbach receive GLVC weekly awards |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University softball players Stephanie Leimbach and Krystal Lewallen have each received weekly honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Leimbach has been named GLVC Player of the Week, while Lewallen is the GLVC Pitcher of the Week. That duo led NKU to an 8-0 record last week and helped the Norse record GLVC doubleheader sweeps against Bellarmine University, the University of Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Leimbach, a sophomore center fielder, batted .583 and scored nine runs last week. Leimbach collected three hits in a game three times in the Norses eight wins, and she had a triple and a home run during a 9-0 win over Kentucky State. She also went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in a 2-0 win over Southern Indiana on Saturday. Leimbach also added four stolen bases last week and was 14-for-24 (.583) at the plate. She is from Hilliard, Ohio. Lewallen hurled a perfect game last Sunday as NKU defeated Kentucky Wesleyan, 8-0, to complete a doubleheader sweep at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field. Lewallen, a graduate of South Oldham High School, recorded 12 strikeouts as NKU won its ninth consecutive game. In three starts this past week, Lewallen posted a 3-0 record with 34 strikeouts and a 0.37 earned run average. She is now 11-4 this season with a 0.60 ERA and a team-leading 120 strikeouts.
