NKU PITCHERS HURL NO-HITTERS

Lewallen, Breitholle lead Norse to road sweep

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - Krystal Lewallen and Emily Breitholle each tossed no-hitters Wednesday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team swept a doubleheader from Georgetown College, taking a 2-0 decision in the opener, and then completing the sweep with a 4-0 victory in the nightcap.

Lewallen - who earlier this season pitched a perfect game against Kentucky Wesleyan College - struck out nine batters and improved to 13-5. Heather Cotner and Stephanie Leimbach each drove in runs for the Norse in the opener.

In the nightcap, Breitholle held Georgetown hitless and picked up three strikeouts to move her season record to 9-5. Heather Brosnan and Megan Owens each collected three hits for NKU, which improved to 27-11.

NKU scored four times in the fourth inning to roll past Georgetown (22-11).

NKU will play host to Quincy University at 3 p.m. Friday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. In addition, NKU will meet Marian (Ind.) College at noon Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader.

NKU is 11-3 in the GLVC and is currently in second place in the league standings. Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville leads the GLVC with a 10-2 record.
