WESTERN KENTUCKY DEFEATS NKU TWICE
WKU sweeps doubleheader from NKU, 2-1 and 1-0
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University pitching staff allowed the Northern Kentucky University softball team just one run Wednesday as the Lady Hilltoppers swept a doubleheader from the Norse by scores of 2-1 and 1-0.
WKUs Amber Garlington tossed a two-hitter in the first game en route to a 2-1 victory. NKU also committed four errors as starter Kim Bina allowed a pair of unearned runs.
In the second game, Katie Swertfager scattered five hits and recorded the shutout for the Lady Hilltoppers. WKU improved to 30-23-1 with the two victories.
NKU now owns a 23-22 record, and the Norse will travel to Romeoville, Ill., on Friday to meet Lewis University at noon (EST) in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
NKU earned the No. 7 seed in the GLVC Tournament with a conference record of 7-10. Lewis is currently 43-7 overall, 16-4 in the GLVC. The Flyers are the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament.
