LINDEMAN SETS NKU RBI RECORD

Norse junior breaks single-season RBI mark as NKU sweeps two

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Angie Lindeman shattered her own single-season runs batted in record Sunday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team swept a doubleheader from the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.

Lindeman went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in the opener as NKU posted an 8-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis. Lindeman, a junior first baseman who set the Norse single-season RBI mark in 2002 with 39, broke that record in the fourth inning Sunday when she blasted a solo homer to right field.

Lindeman now has 40 RBI this season, and she leads NKU with four homers. Lindeman, a native of North Canton, Ohio, is also batting .316 this spring.

NKU sophomore pitcher Krystal Lewallen scattered three hits in five innings to pick up her 23rd victory of the season in the opener. Kara Lorenz hit a three-run triple to highlight a seven-run first inning for NKU, which coasted to the win.

In the second game, Becky Napier’s three-run double in the fifth inning snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted NKU to a 5-2 victory. Sara Becker added a solo homer for NKU, which improved to 41-3 overall, 13-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Missouri-St. Louis (19-24 overall, 7-9 GLVC) tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning on Kristen Economon’s RBI single, but NKU wasted no time in regaining the lead. An error and singles by Ricki Rothbauer and Stephanie Leimbach loaded the bases for Napier, who doubled to left center to drive in all three runners.

Emily Breitholle (12-1) recorded the win for NKU, which is ranked No. 8 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Sarah Newland pitched the final two innings to get the save for the Norse, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll.

NKU will travel to Louisville, Ky., on Thursday to meet Bellarmine University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader. The Norse will also play at Saint Joseph’s College next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
