NKU sophomore named GLVC Pitcher of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Krystal Lewallen has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for softball, the league announced Wednesday.

Lewallen, a sophomore from Crestwood, Ky., picked up four wins at the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge last weekend, and she also became the Norse’s all-time career strikeout leader during a victory against 14th-ranked Grand Valley State University.

Lewallen struck out 11 Grand Valley State batters during a 2-0 win last Saturday to pass Kim Bina on NKU’s career strikeout list. Lewallen limited Grand Valley State to just four hits and earned the complete-game victory. Lewallen also picked up wins against Wayne State (Mich.) University and Ashland University over the weekend and is currently 18-1 this season.

Lewallen, a graduate of South Oldham High School who now has 343 career strikeouts, also has 10 shutouts this season and is looking to became just the second pitcher in NKU history to record a 20-win season.

For the week, Lewallen was 4-0 with a 0.00 earned run average. In 22 innings, she gave up six hits, no runs and had 25 strikeouts.

This marks the second time this season that Lewallen has been named the GLVC Pitcher of the Week.
