LEWALLEN APPROACHES NKU CAREER RECORD

Sophomore pitcher needs three strikeouts to set Norse mark

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University pitcher Krystal Lewallen needs just three strikeouts this weekend to become the Norse’s all-time career leader in that category.

Lewallen, a sophomore from Crestwood, Ky., enters the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge at Peoria, Ill., with 309 career strikeouts. The current NKU record for career strikeouts is 311, held by Kim Bina.

Lewallen owns a 13-1 record this season with a 0.22 earned run average. She has also recorded 119 strikeouts this spring and ranks No. 1 in the GLVC in wins, strikeouts and ERA. She is also leading the GLVC in innings pitched (94 2/3).

In addition, Lewallen is looking to become just the second 20-game winner in Norse history. Emily Breitholle won a single-season record 20 games for NKU in 2002.

NKU is currently 25-1 and ranked No. 8 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The 25-1 start is the best in the history of the program.
