GANNON DEFEATS NKU, 3-2, IN 8 INNINGS

Golden Knights snap Norse’s seven-game win streak

PEORIA, Ill. - Becky Zubek’s eighth-inning bloop single to right field drove in Joanna Fergus with the winning run Friday night as Gannon (Pa.) University defeated Northern Kentucky University, 3-2, at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/Great Lakes Valley Conference Challenge.

Stephanie Leimbach was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in for NKU, which had its seven-game win streak snapped. Becky Napier was 2-for-3 with a double for the Norse.

Gannon improved to 12-3 with the victory. The Golden Knights have won 10 consecutive games.

NKU, now 25-2 and ranked No. 8 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, will meet 14th-ranked Grand Valley State University at 8 a.m. on Saturday in a battle of nationally rated teams.

NKU will also meet Wayne (Mich.) State University and the University of Findlay on Saturday. The Norse will conclude the tournament on Sunday with a game against Ashland University.
