NKU PREPARES FOR BELLARMINE

Norse play Knights this Thursday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University softball team will travel to Louisville, Ky., on Thursday to meet Bellarmine University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

In addition to playing at Bellarmine, NKU will also visit Rensselaer, Ind., on Saturday for a GLVC doubleheader against Saint Joseph’s College. The Norse return home Sunday to play host to the University of Indianapolis at noon.

NKU, winner of a school-record 41 games going into Thursday, leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 13-1 record. The Norse (41-3 overall) are ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll.

If NKU maintains that No. 1 ranking in the poll, the Norse will play host to the Great Lakes Region Tournament May 6-9.

Junior first baseman Angie Lindeman shattered her single-season runs batted in record last Sunday in a win against the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Lindeman went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI as NKU posted an 8-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis. Lindeman, who set the Norse single-season RBI mark in 2002 with 39, broke that record in the fourth inning Sunday when she blasted a solo homer to right field.

Lindeman is tied for No. 2 in the GLVC with 40 RBI this season, and she leads NKU with four homers. Lindeman, a native of North Canton, Ohio, is also batting .316 this spring.

Junior center fielder Stephanie Leimbach leads the GLVC in hitting with a .414 batting average. Leimbach is tied for No. 2 in the GLVC in hits with 58, and she is tied for No. 3 with 32 runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher Krystal Lewallen is 23-2 after picking up a victory against Missouri-St. Louis. Lewallen leads the GLVC in wins, strikeouts (a school-record 207), earned run average (0.34 ERA) and innings pitched (163.2).

Junior pitcher Emily Breitholle improved to 12-1 with a pair of wins last weekend. Breitholle now has 45 wins in her career and ranks No. 2 in Norse history in that category.
