RENSSELAER, Ind. - Angie Lindeman collected two hits and a pair of runs batted in Thursday as the Northern Kentucky University softball team posted a 6-2 win over Saint Josephs College in the first game of a doubleheader. Emily Breitholle scattered eight hits and upped her record to 18-3 for NKU. Breitholle also fanned 11 Saint Josephs batter en route to the complete-game victory. Carrie Higgins scored twice for the Norse, who are ranked No. 19 nationally in the latest Division II poll. Higgins had a double and triple to key the NKU offense. Kristin Koors and Stephanie Leimbach each added two hits. In the nightcap, Erika Cheslek hurled a three-hitter as Saint Josephs earned a split with a 2-0 victory. NKU is now 33-9 overall, 13-3 in the Great Lakes valley Conference. The Norse will play host to No. 2 Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (43-8) this Saturday at 1 p.m. NKU will also play host to the University of Southern Indiana at noon Sunday. If NKU wins all four games this weekend, the Norse will be the No. 1 seed at the GLVC Tournament May 3-5 at Romeoville, Ill. NKU trails SIUE (15-1) by two games in the race for the top seed, but they can still earn the No. 1 seed by sweeping SIUE and Southern Indiana. NKU needs just two wins to tie the school record for most victories (35 in 1989). |
