NKU FAVORED IN BOTH GLVC BASKETBALL POLLS

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s and women’s basketball teams are the preseason favorites in both Great Lakes Valley Conference coaches polls.

The NKU men, 16-12 last season, return four starters and add four key redshirts in 1999-2000. The Norse (5 first place votes, 112 points) were picked to win the GLVC over Southern Indiana (110 points) and defending national champion Kentucky Wesleyan (110 points).

The NKU women, who posted a 30-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four last season, are the favorites to repeat as GLVC champions. NKU welcomes back three starters, including sophomore forward Michelle Cottrell and junior guard Michele Tuchfarber, and add an impressive recruiting class.

NKU edged out Bellarmine for the favorite’s role in the preseason poll. NKU had four first-place votes and 111 points, while Bellarmine totaled four first-place votes and 108 points.
