Norse men and women play at Midland, Mich.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s and women’s tennis teams have received berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and both squads will travel to Midland, Mich., for the Great Lakes Regional May 7-8.

The NKU women’s team is 19-3 overall, and the third-seeded Norse will meet sixth-seeded Grand Valley State University (13-11) in the first round on May 7. The winner will meet either Northwood (Mich.) University (18-1) or Lewis University (18-5) in the regional finals May 8.

NKU is led by senior No. 1 singles standout Elizabeth Brunsman, who has earned All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors three times. This marks the fourth time in the past six seasons that NKU has advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The NKU men’s tennis team owns a 17-4 overall record, and the fourth-seeded Norse will play GLVC rival and No. 5 seed University of Southern Indiana (14-7) on May 7 in the first round.

The winner of that match will face either top-seeded Northwood or eighth-seeded West Liberty State College in the regional finals May 8.

NKU features senior No. 1 singles player Amine Benjelloun, who was named GLVC co-Player of the Year this spring. This is the Norse’s second straight trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The regional champion in both men’s and women’s tennis will advance to the NCAA II national finals May 11-16, at the Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
