NKU TO MEET SIUE IN GLVC

Norse men’s tennis team plays Cougars in GLVC first round

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s tennis team will be the No. 3 seed at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships this weekend at Indianapolis, Ind., and the Norse will meet No. 6 seed Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at 10 a.m. Friday in the first round.

NKU is 9-9 overall, and the Norse finished 6-2 in the GLVC. NKU is currently ranked No. 7 in the regional poll and could receive a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament with a good showing at the GLVC Championships.

NKU sophomore Amine Benjelloun finished unbeaten (7-0) against GLVC opponents in No. 1 singles action by defeating Missouri- St. Louis’ Martin Kardos, 7-5, 6-3, and SIUE’s Heath Turpin, 6-3, 6-1, on Saturday. The Norse dropped a 5-4 decision to Missouri-St. Louis, and later defeated SIUE by a 7-2 score.

If NKU defeats SIUE this Friday, the Norse will face either Missouri-St. Louis or Lewis in the second round at 2 p.m. Friday.
