NKU TO HOST WHEELING JESUIT ON FRIDAY
Norse (0-4) look for first victory against unbeaten (4-0) WJU
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team, which is 0-4 after dropping a 6-5 overtime decision to West Virginia Wesleyan College last Sunday, will play host to unbeaten Wheeling Jesuit University this Friday night at 8 p.m.
Wheeling Jesuit owns a 4-0 record after posting a 3-0 victory over Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday. The Cardinals are also rated No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region rankings.
NKU sophomore Stephen Hahn scored a pair of goals in the loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Jonathan Atkinson scored three goals - including the game-winner in overtime - as West Virginia Wesleyan rallied for the victory. Atkinsons winning shot came at the 91:50 mark off an assist from Jared Cummings.
The goal capped a WVWC rally that enabled the Bobcats to erase a 5-3 NKU lead with less than 25 minutes remaining in regulation.
A YEAR AGO AGAINST WHEELING JESUIT: NKU posted a 4-0 win at Wheeling Jesuit last season. The Norse scored three goals in the second half to roll past the Cardinals. Tony Becker scored a pair of goals to lead the Norse. Wheeling Jesuit leads the all-time series with NKU, 5-4-1.
NKU BEGINS GLVC PLAY ON SEPT. 15: NKU will travel to play Missouri-St. Louis at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15 in the Norse's Great Lakes Valley Conference opener. NKU will also play at Quincy on Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
After the road trip to Missouri-St. Louis and Quincy, the Norse will play at Kentucky Wesleyan on Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m.
NKU will return home on Sept. 24 to play Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m.
