HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team is ranked 25th nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll. NKU, 3-0-1 after wins against Ashland University and Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University last week, is ranked in the national poll for the first time since 1996. The Norse featured All-American J.T. Roberts that season and finished with a 14-5-1 record. NKU, under second-year head coach John Basalyga, has not allowed a goal in four games this season. Norse goalie Nate Madden has recorded all four shutouts. Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Lewis University is ranked No. 5 nationally in the poll. The Flyers currently own a 4-0 record. Lynn (Fla.) University (2-0) is the nations top-ranked team. Andy Bacons goal with 39 seconds remaining in regulation snapped a scoreless tie last Sunday and lifted NKU to a 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers in the John Toebben Classic presented by Provident Bank. Two days earlier, Chris Berberichs first career goal gave NKU a 1-0 win over Ashland. NKU will travel to Rolla, Mo., this Sunday to meet the University of Missouri-Rolla at 1 p.m. |
