USI POSTS 2-1 WIN OVER NKU

Eagles score twice in final seven minutes to defeat Norse

WILDER, Ky. - Greg Henry’s goal with five minutes left in regulation Friday night snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Northern Kentucky University at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

Freshman David Lies gave NKU a 1-0 lead in the first half by blasting in 25-yard shot that sailed over USI goalie Josh Hill and into the net. NKU still held a 1-0 advantage with seven minutes remaining when USI’s Jared Anslinger found the net off an assist from Nick Ingalls.

Henry gave USI the lead at the 85:00 mark by directing in a header off a pass from Steve Hendrickson, who had chased down a well-placed free kick from Duncan Bray. NKU - which entered Friday with a three-game win streak - was unable to find the net in the last five minutes and dropped to 3-2-1 overall, 0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

USI improved to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in the GLVC.

NKU will play host to the University of Missouri-St. Louis at noon on Sunday.
