WILDER, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University is still unbeaten in mens soccer, but the Norses four-game winning streak ended Friday in a scoreless tie against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. NKU, 4-0-2 overall and ranked 18th nationally in this weeks NCAA Division II poll, managed just six shots the entire contest against the Wisconsin-Parkside defense in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams. The Rangers (5-1-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) held a 14-6 edge in shot attempts for the game but were unable to finish several good opportunities in the second half. NKU senior goalie Nate Madden recorded the shutout for NKU and had five saves. Wisconsin-Parkside goalie Victor Perez stopped two shots - including a potential winner off a header in the second overtime after an NKU corner kick - and also picked up a shutout. It marked the fifth time this season the NKU defense has held the opposition scoreless. David Lies and Andy Bacon both anchored the Norse backfield on Friday. Going into Fridays showdown, NKU was 1-8-1 against Wisconsin-Parkside during the past seven years and had been outscored by a 26-7 margin in those games. The Norse have not beaten the Rangers since the 1997 season. NKU will return to action Sunday at noon against Saint Josephs College at the Town & Country Sports Complex. |
