NKU CLOSES OUT 2002 HOME SCHEDULE

Norse to host Southern Virginia, Saint Joseph’s

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team will play its final two home matches of the season this weekend, as the Norse will host Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m. Saturday and Saint Joseph’s College at noon Sunday.

NKU enters the weekend with a 3-6-2 overall record after playing the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to a 1-1 tie last Sunday. The Norse own a 0-5-1 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Nick Brayton scored a breakaway goal off an assist from Kevin Holder in the second half Sunday for NKU. Wisconsin-Parkside held a 1-0 lead when Holder made a nice lead pass to Brayton, who eluded Ranger goalie Joey Alessi and found a wide open net to tie the score at the 62:54 mark.

Both teams had chances in regulation to take the lead, but good defense by Alessi (10 saves) and NKU goalie Nate Madden (four saves) kept the score tied.

NKU senior forward Jeff Anderson leads the Norse in scoring with seven goals this season. Anderson, a graduate of LaSalle High School in Cincinnati, now has 34 career goals.

NKU senior midfielder Joaquin Palomeque scored his first goal of the season last Friday night during Lewis University’s 2-1 victory over the Norse. Palomeque also has an assist this season.

After this weekend, NKU will close out the regular season with five consecutive road matches.
