WILDER, Ky. - Nick Brayton scored a breakaway goal off an assist from Kevin Holder in the second half Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team played 25th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside to a 1-1 tie at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Wisconsin-Parkside held a 1-0 lead when Holder made a nice lead pass to Brayton, who eluded Ranger goalie Joey Alessi and found a wide open net to tie the score at the 62:54 mark. Both teams had chances in regulation to take the lead, but good defense by Alessi (10 saves) and NKU goalie Nate Madden (four saves) kept the score tied.
In the final minute of the second overtime, NKU’s Nate McCall broke away into the Ranger backfield and appeared to be in position to break the tie. McCall, however, dribbled the ball near the goal and lost control before attempting a shot.
NKU is now 3-6-2 overall, 0-5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Wisconsin-Parkside is 6-4-1, 1-3-1 in the GLVC.
NKU will play host to Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
