LEWIS POSTS 2-1 WIN OVER NKU

Sanabria’s two penalty kicks sink Norse

WILDER, Ky. - Justin Sanabria scored two goals - both penalty kicks - Friday night as the Lewis University men’s soccer team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 2-1, at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

Sanabria’s second goal, which came at the 61:05 mark, snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Lewis - ranked No. 10 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - to the win. The Flyers improved to 8-2 overall, 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

NKU (3-6-1 overall, 0-5 GLVC) took a 1-0 lead early in the first half when Joaquin Palomeque blasted in a kick from 25 yards out. Lewis, however, tied the score later in the half when Sanabria netted a penalty kick at the 28:51 mark.

The match remained tied until the 61:05 mark, when NKU goalie Nate Madden was called for taking down Lewis’ Gabe Leon in the penalty box. Sanabria converted the ensuing penalty kick, and Lewis sent NKU to its fifth consecutive loss.

The Norse will play host to 25th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside at noon Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
