Freshman scores two goals in 3-1 Norse victory |

WILDER, Ky. - Chris Thompson scored two goals Sunday to lead the Northern Kentucky Universitys mens soccer team to a 3-1 victory against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Kyle Roberts also added a goal for NKU, which improved to 8-2-2 overall, 3-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Missouri-St. Louis dropped to 6-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the GLVC. Thompson opened the scoring for NKU at the 30:56 mark when he took a lead pass from Randy Walters and beat Missouri-St. Louis goalie Adam Balbi with a shot. NKU increased the lead to 2-0 at the 43:23 mark after Thompson stole the ball and finished with a shot from 18 yards that found the back of the net. Thompson, a redshirt freshman and a graduate of Elder High School in Cincinnati, now has a team-leading five goals this season. Roberts iced the victory at the 71:13 mark with a 14-yard shot that landed in the upper right corner of the net. Jonathan Market, however, ended NKUs streak of shutouts at home when he fired in a shot at the 82:08 mark. Markets goal was the first allowed at home by the NKU defense in nine games this fall. NKU will play at Bellarmine University at 1 p.m. Friday. |
