INDIANAPOLIS - Jimmy Rust scored a goal at the 62:31 mark to give the University of Indianapolis a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky University in mens soccer action on Wednesday. Rusts goal came after a corner kick by Lee Schreyer and enabled the Greyhounds to pick up the key Great Lakes Valley Conference win. Indianapolis improved to 9-5-3 overall, 5-3-2 in the GLVC. NKU could have clinched a first-round home game in the upcoming GLVC Tournament with a victory. Indianapolis, however, held an 18-9 edge in shot attempts and allowed the Norse just three shots on goal. Matt Spaulding picked up the shutout for the Greyhounds and notched three saves. Nate Madden finished with nine saves for NKU, which dropped to 12-4-2 overall, 6-3-1 in the GLVC. The Norse are the No. 5 seed in the GLVC Tournament and will play at No. 4 seed Quincy University at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first round. The winner of that game will travel to Edwardsville, Ill., on Nov. 5 to meet top-seeded Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. NKU will conclude its regular-season schedule Friday with a 6 p.m. contest at Gannon (Pa.) University. The Norse are ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll, and the top three teams will advance to the NCAA Tournament. |
