WILDER, Ky. - Chris Thompson scored two goals Wednesday night to lead Northern Kentucky University to a 4-0 win over Oakland City University at the Town & Country Sports Complex. NKU used a 38-1 advantage in shots to overpower Oakland City (4-8-2), and the Norse controlled field position the entire match. Matt Flick and David Lies also added goals for NKU, which improved to 11-3-2 with the non-conference victory. Thompson opened the scoring at the 21:45 mark when he drilled a shot past Oakland City goalie Austin Wiggins. Flick gave the Norse a 2-0 lead at the 43:39 mark off an assist from Tony Capurro. Jeremy Curington and Mike Braun combined for the shutout for NKU, which will play host to Lewis University at noon Saturday in the home season finale. The Norse are 5-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and in fourth place in the league standings. The top six teams will qualify for the GLVC Tournament, and the Norse have clinched a spot in that event. NKU can also earn a first-round home game if it defeats both Lewis and the University of Indianapolis. The GLVC Tournament begins Oct. 31 at campus sites. The No. 3 and 4 seeds will play host to first-round games, while the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will earn byes. |
