WILDER, Ky. - Southern Virginia University scored three first-half goals Saturday afternoon and withstood a late Northern Kentucky University rally to post a 3-2 victory over the Norse at the Town & Country Sports Complex. After NKUs Nick Brayton tallied his third goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1 at the 28:40 mark, Southern Virginia answered with a pair of goals. Nicolas Zumaglini scored on a penalty kick to give the Knights a 2-1 lead at the 32:18 mark, and Connor Valentine found the net off a breakaway just 35 seconds later as Southern Virginia took a 3-1 advantage at halftime. Kevin Holder kicked in a rebound shot that was assisted by Nate Madden to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 27 minutes left in regulation, but the Norse were unable to find the net the remainder of the match. NKU dropped to 3-7-2 with the loss, while Southern Virginia improved to 11-1-1. NKU will close out its home season at noon Sunday with a Great Lakes Valley Conference match against Saint Josephs College. |
