HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University mens soccer team, now 5-8 overall after dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville on Sunday, will play a pair of nationally ranked teams on the road this weekend. NKU will face Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Wisconsin-Parkside - which is ranked No. 16 nationally in the Division II poll - at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Norse will travel to Romeoville, Ill., on Sunday to face seventh-ranked Lewis University at 1:30 p.m. in another GLVC match. Wisconsin-Parkside is 9-3 overall, and 4-3 in the GLVC. Lewis owns a 10-3 overall record, and a 5-2 slate in the GLVC. NKU enters this weekend with a 4-3 GLVC record. The loss against SIUE on Sunday snapped NKUs winning streak at five. The Norse are tied with Wisconsin-Parkside for fourth place in the GLVC standings, and both teams are hoping to earn homefield advantage in the first round of the GLVC Tournament in November. The No. 1 seed will earn a bye and play host to the GLVC semifinals and finals. The No. 2, 3 and 4 seeds will host first-round matches in the GLVC Tournament. Sophomore Jeff Anderson leads NKU in scoring with 20 points (seven goals, six assists). Anderson ranks No. 4 in the GLVC in scoring. Sophomore Mohamed Janah has seven goals and three assists to rank second on the team in scoring. Senior goalie Jimmy Dwertman has a 2.47 goals against average. A YEAR AGO AGAINST UWP: Raymond James scored two goals as Wisconsin-Parkside handed NKU a 4-1 loss at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder. Kevin Crone scored the only goal for the Norse. Wisconsin-Parkside leads the all-time series with NKU, 8-4. A YEAR AGO AGAINST LEWIS: Nick Carr scored a goal off an assist from Wolf Javier early in the first half as Lewis defeated NKU, 1-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Carrs goal came 20 minutes into the match, and the Lewis defense made the score hold up. Lewis goalie Andrew Barks had three saves and recorded the shutout. Lewis leads the all-time series with NKU, 12-9-1. |
