WILDER, Ky. - Victor Pacheco scored a pair of goals Friday night as the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville men’s soccer team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 4-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Addae Rique added a goal and an assist for SIUE, ranked No. 11 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Cougars improved to 9-2 overall, 5-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
SIUE took a 1-0 lead 22 minutes into the match when Rique beat NKU goalie Nate Madden for a score off a pass from Cal Thomas. Brian Higgins made it 2-0 at the 39:43 mark when he found the net off an assist from Rique.
Pacheco added two goals in the second half for SIUE, which used an 18-2 edge in shot attempts to post the victory. Madden recorded five saves for NKU, which dropped to 3-7-2 overall, 1-3-2 in the GLVC.
NKU will play host to Quincy University at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex in the Norse’s 2003 home finale.
