WILDER, Ky. - Kyle Grants goal at the 79:59 mark snapped a scoreless tie Sunday and keyed Saginaw Valley State Universitys 2-0 victory over Northern Kentucky University in the John Toebben Labor Day Weekend Classic at the Town & Country Sports Complex. After Grants goal gave Saginaw Valley State a 1-0 lead, NKU had an opportunity when Nate Rudolph found an opening in the Cardinals defense and fired a shot from 12 yards out. Saginaw Valley State goalie Adrian Thomas, however, stopped the attempt to keep the score at 1-0. Robert Alexander sealed the victory for the Cardinals with 39 seconds remaining by knocking in a rebound shot to give Saginaw Valley State a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals (2-0) took a total of 18 shots Sunday, while NKU (1-1) attempted 10 shots. NKU goalie Nate Madden recorded six saves, while Thomas finished with eight saves for Saginaw Valley State. It marked the second straight season that Saginaw Valley State had beaten NKU at the Town & Country Sports Complex. NKU will hit the road next Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. contest at Ashland University. |
