NKU LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND

Norse hold one-stroke lead going into final 27 holes

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team is in first place after Monday’s first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, which are being held at the par-72 Kampen Golf Course at Purdue University.

NKU finished the first 27 holes Monday with a score of 450 and leads second-place University of Indianapolis (451) by one stroke. The Norse, seeking their second straight GLVC title, were led by senior Steve Landrum’s 109 for the first 27 holes.

Landrum, in third place and four strokes behind first-round leader Brett Hulse (105) of Indianapolis, is the defending medalist of the GLVC Championships. NKU’s Brandon Brown is tied for sixth place after 27 holes with a 111, and the Norse’s Curtis Phelps is tied for 10th with a 113.

The final round will be played Tuesday.
