NKU GOLFERS 18th AFTER 1ST ROUND OF NCAAs

Norse shoot 321 (+37) in opening round of NCAA II national finals

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team finished with a first-round total of 321 (+37) Tuesday at the NCAA Division II national finals, and the Norse are in 18th place after the first day of the 72-hole tournament.

Freshman Brandon Brown shot a 3-over-par 74 at the Meadows Golf Course and was NKU’s top individual. Brown is currently tied for 11th place in the individual competition.

NKU junior Steve Landrum, the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year, shot an 11-over-par 82 during the first round and is tied for 75th place.

The Norse, making their first appearance in the national finals since 1996, are 32 strokes off the lead going into Wednesday’s second round.

Florida Southern College, the three-time defending NCAA Division II national champion, is the leader after one round at 289. The Moccasins led wire-to-wire in last year’s NCAA Division II national finals and won the event by 29 strokes at Turlock, Calif.

The 72-hole tournament will continue through Friday.
