NKU 17TH AFTER ONE ROUND

Norse total 321 during 1st round of NCAA Division II nationals

DELAND, Fla. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team is in 17th place after the first round of the NCAA Division II national finals, which began Wednesday.

NKU completed the first round with a score of 321 (+33) at the par-72 Victoria Hills Golf Course. NKU’s Brandon Parsons shot a 5-over-par 77 and is in 42nd place in the individual competition.

Norse golfers Glenn Davidson and Curtis Phelps each shot 81 to tie for 79th place after one round. NKU’s Jonathan Ehlen and David Shearer each finished with an 82, which was good for 90th place in the individual standings.

NKU won the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional last week to advance to the national finals.

Columbus (Ga.) State University leads the team standings after one round with a score of 291, while California State University-Stanislaus is second with a total of 295.

Bobby Thomas of Columbus State fired a 2-under-par 70 Wednesday and is atop the leader board after the first 18 holes.

The NCAA Division II national finals, a 72-hole competition, will continue through Saturday.
